about me

Hi, I’m Marta – the founder of
Kovalska Ceramics

I believe that art shouldn’t belong exclusively to galleries – it should be part of our daily lives. This conviction is the foundation of my philosophy, expressed in the phrase “Your daily art fix” – a reminder that beauty and creativity can accompany us every day.

Art and design have always been close to my heart. I studied in four countries (Lviv/Ukraine, Gdańsk/Poland, Milan/Italy, Beesel/the Netherlands), where I developed my skills in art conservation, sculpture, and ceramics.

My artistic journey began in Lviv, where I studied the conservation of stone sculptures. This experience taught me sensitivity to detail and the structure of materials.

I first encountered ceramics in 2019 in the Netherlands during an Erasmus+ internship. I worked under the guidance of an experienced artist who introduced me to the world of ceramics and taught me to see clay as a medium full of emotion and expression. This experience opened a new chapter for me – since then, ceramics have become my main form of artistic expression.

I currently live in Gdańsk, where I run an intimate studio. I offer individual lessons for adults and children, and I am open to collaborations in the fields of art and design, constantly seeking new ways to create dialogue between craftsmanship and contemporary art.

In 2022, I graduated with distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, majoring in sculpture. In my diploma project, I combined elements of ceramics and sculpture with Ukrainian poetry, as words often become an impulse and a source of inspiration in my creative process.

My latest series, Blue Birds, is a symbolic story about lightness, rebirth, and readiness to take flight. Through these works, I strive to express myself not only as a craftswoman but also as an artist still searching for her voice in art. Some elements of the series are meticulously refined, while others carry small imperfections that give them authenticity and character. The collection is made from a combination of blue porcelain and beige stoneware clay.

In 2025, my work First Language was presented at Women’s Vision of Color in Warsaw during the Night of Museums.

The piece blends tradition with personal expression and a deep connection to my cultural roots. A kaftan inspired by traditional Ukrainian attire is adorned with ceramic beads, each bearing an imprinted letter that together form a poem by the renowned Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko.

In 2023, I had the honor of presenting my collection The Bubble at the prestigious “1000 Vases” exhibition during Paris Design Week – an event that celebrates contemporary craftsmanship and the art of creating vases. It was my first major international exhibition and the fulfillment of an artistic dream.
